Organization of Dog Show by Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna

A Dog Show –cum-competition was organized by Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna on 25.02.2018 at Ground of Bihar Veterinary College, Patna.

The show was inaugurated by Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, BASU, Patna by enlightening the lamp. On the inaugural speech Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor welcomed all the Pet lovers for the Dog show and highlighted the importance of dog show for promoting the awareness among Pet lovers. He appreciated the role of Clinical Complex of Bihar Veterinary College for treatment and diagnostic facilities for Pets and other animals. He added that at Clinical complex all sorts of facilities are available for Pet owners and they should visit and avail the modern facilities available at Clinical Complex of BVC.

 At the onset of event Dog named Lina  of 9th Battalion, NDRF, Patna presented a bouquet  to Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. After that some wonderful show was performed by Dog squad of 9th Battalion. They demonstrated how they sniff any explosives and save life of citizens. They also showed their obedience’s by following the instructions of their handlers.

The dog competition was categorized into three part, Best Breed, Fancy Dress and Most obedient dog. The competition was judged by Dr. P.C. Chandran, Scientist, from ICAR-RCER, Dr. Ramesh Tiwary, Dr. Archana Kumari, Dr. Nirbhay Kumar from Bihar Veterinary College.

NDRF Dog Lina welcomed the Chief Guest of this occasion, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh, Agriculture Production Commissioner of Govt. of Bihar. In this Dog Show –cum-competition, 105 Pet owners registered their Dogs. The ground was full of fancy dogs and Pet lovers. A number of pharmaceutical companies were also present on their stall with their products for demonstration to Pet lovers. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor visited all the stalls and enquired about their products.

The competition was followed by prize distribution to winners.

Bruno, a Golden Retiever Dog of Roshan Kumar was overall Champion of the competition. Dog Stila a Doberman breed of Mukul Kumar, won the second prize. A German Shapered Dog, Gipsy of Aditya Kumar won overall third position.

The winners of this competition was rewarded with Prize, Trophy and certificate by Chief Guest Shri Sunil Kumar Singh, Agriculture Production Commissioner of Bihar and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rameshwar Singh jointly. At the concluding remark APC, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh addressed that the Dogs are best companion animal and friend of humans. They not only protect the House from intruders, they are companion for people of old age who live alone at their houses. The trend of rearing pets has increased in Patna, he added.

At this occasion Ex-Professor and Chairman, Deptt. Of Surgery Dr. A. A. Khan said he has witnessed dogs acting as life savers for human being and such kind of Dog show should be conducted regularly to encourage the Pet owners. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. S. Samantaray, Registrar, BASU. Dean, SGIDT, Dr. M. N. Singh was also present on this occasion.

The organizers were, Dr. K. G. Mandal, University Professor, BVC, Dr. Pallav Shekhar, Dr. Pankaj Singh, Dr. Saroj Kumar, Dr. Bipin Kumar, Dr. Sudha Kumari, Asstt. Professors from BVC. At this occasion DRI- cum-Dean PGS, Dr. S. R. P. Sinha, Director Extension Education, Dr. A. K. Thakur, Director Research, Dr. Chandramoni was also present. Students and faculty of BVC and SGIDT, number of Pet lovers, and media personals were also present on this occasion.
