About


The department of Livestock Farm Complex (LFC) was established in terms of notification of Veterinary Council of India regarding Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course) Regulations, 2016. Livestock Farm Complex department constituted in year 2022-2023 and is engaged in teaching of 3rd year B.V.Sc. & A.H students. The department is actively involved in imparting quality teaching and hands on training to students in rearing of livestock species including poultry to improve their skill and competence in livestock production. The department provides the services of teaching with the facilities of housing, feeding, breeding, record keeping and management of large and small ruminant units, poultry and animals of regional interest. LFC provides research facilities and also works as a model demonstration unit for students, trainees and livestock entrepreneurs.

Mandate


  • Teaching and practical demonstrations of B.V.Sc. & A.H. students to fulfil the VCI course plan
  • To conduct the researches which would be directly or indirectly fulfil the need of farmers and livestock owners
  • Training of livestock owners, stakeholders and entrepreneurs
  • Development of good quality germplasm and supply of livestock and poultry

Facilities


  • Lecture Room: One smart class room with seating capacity of 100 students for UG teaching.
  • Laboratory: The lab is established with all instruments and equipment under the terms of MSVE Regulations, 2016.
  • Farm Facilities: Cattle and Buffalo farm for hands on training to UG students and for research purpose. Experimental shed for research on Poultry production and management. Goat, Sheep and Equine farm is also available for academic purposes.
  • For fodder production, 33 acres land is available and cultivated for farm animals fodder requirements and also for research purposes.
  • One practical class room for models of housing, different breeds of cattle, buffaloes, horse, chicken, goat and charts of breeds and anatomical structures of animals.
  • One smart seminar room of capacity of 50 seats along with different gadgets.

Livestock farm practices – Involvement of students in all aspects of animal rearing. Hands on training of the students on the overall farm practices of livestock management including cleaning, feeding, watering, grooming, milking, routine health care, record keeping, sanitation, housing, fodder production, preparation of mineral mixture, cost economic of fodder production. Care of pregnant animals, management of parturition, care of neonatal and young stock. Management of broiler, layer farm and hatchery.
