Brief Introduction

Dr. A. K. Thakur, Joined as First Director Extension Education of the newly constituted Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna in 2017 (officiating) and working as regular Director Extension Education since January 2020. He did M.Sc. in Agricultural Communication and Extension, 1984 from G.B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology and Ph.D. (Veterinary Extension Education, 1994) from IVRI, Deemed University.  Dr. Thakur was also selected in ARS in 1984 and he joined RAU, as Assistant Professor in May 1985 and then he has been working as Associate Professor and Head, Department of Dairy Extension, SGIDT from 1988 to 2006. He has been working as University Professor & Head, Department of Dairy Extension, SGIDT, Patna since 2007 to 2017. He also had the opportunity to serve as Dean, SGIDT (2019 & 2021) and Finance Comptroller-BASU (July 2022 till date), Member Secretary of Extension Education Council, Member and Chairman of various committees, governing bodies at University and state level. He has also served as an expert member of UPSC, New-Delhi. He has more than 100 Popular and 25 Research articles, three books and four manuals, 18 training compendia to his credit. He recently started Pashupalan Darshika (Quaterly Hindi Magazine) from the Directorate of Extension Education.

He is regularly involved in developing programmes of extension education, budget estimates for extension education activities, inter-faculty co-ordination with extension education programme, provide supplementary service to farmers, extension network in Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Collaboration with the Directorate of Research and other units of the University/other organizations. He is regularly conducting of Extension Education Council meeting. He has been involved in organization of training programs for the farmers sponsored by various organization Viz; ATMA, BAMETI, NABARD, COMFED, PDP, AFRD and NGOs etc. He has also been interacting with farmers to provide tips for maximizing production, management of their animal farm through lectures, training, animal health camps, field days, farmer’s days, Radio and TV talks.
