Brief Introduction

Dr Ajay Kumar Sharma joined as Students’ Welfare Officer, Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU), Patna, Bihar on 1st November 2023. Dr Sharma has been First Division throughout his academic and professional career. He was graduated (1980) from St. John’s College Agra (Agra University). Dr Sharma earned his B.V.Sc. & A.H. with distinction in Animal Genetics and Breeding from Veterinary College Mathura (CSAUA&T, Kanpur), M.V.Sc. (Animal Breeding) with ICAR-JRF from GBPUAT, Pantnagar (UK) and  Ph.D (Animal Genetics) from ICAR-IVRI, Deemed University, Izatnagar  (U.P.).

Experience (India and Abroad): Dr Sharma joined as ARS Scientist on 21.01.1992 in the discipline of Animal Genetics and Breeding at NAARM, Hyderabad and completed his subject Matter Training at NDRI, Karnal. He served as Scientist, IVRI, Izatnagar (1993-2000); Sr. Scientist and Principal Scientist, IVRI Izatnagar and IVRI, Mukteshwar (2001 onwards);  Head, Division of Temperate Animal Husbandry,  IVRI Mukteshwar (2004-2006 and 2009-2017); Station-in-charge (presently Joint Director), IVRI campus, Mukteshwar (UK). Dr Sharma served about 4 years on deputation as expatriate staff, Haramaya (Formerly Alemaya) University, Ethiopia (2001-2003 and 2006-2008) under World Bank-ARTP/UNDP Funded Programme.

Research Areas / Publications: Animal Genetics & Breeding, Molecular Genetics, Allele mining, Disease tolerance/susceptibility; successfully completed more than 17 Institute, Inter-institutional and externally funded research projects. Published more than 65 research articles (h-index:14;  i-10 index: 22; Citations: 791); 20 reviews/ popular/technical/invited articles /  book chapters etc. and more than 50 abstracts; Advised 11 post graduate students M.V.Sc/ PhD.
