Department of Livestock Products Technology
About
Department of Livestock Products Technology was established in 2022–23. The vision of the department is to achieve excellence in education, research, and innovation to ensure sustainable development, food safety, quality assurance, and value addition for improved nutrition, public health, and socio-economic growth. The department engages in teaching, research, and extension on post-harvest technology of milk, meat, poultry, and animal by-products. It offers Livestock Products Technology courses to B.V.Sc. & A.H. students comprising Unit 1: Milk and Milk Products Technology, Unit 2: Wool Science, Unit 3: Abattoir Practices and Animal By-Products Technology, and Unit 4: Meat Science, as per MSVE-2016 guidelines and is also preparing to initiate postgraduate teaching. To strengthen research and innovation, the department is upgrading facilities for product development, packaging, and quality control of livestock products. It also provides training to students, scholars, faculty, farmers and self-help groups in hygienic meat and milk production, meat and milk processing, quality control, and value addition through workshops, trainings, online programs, and extension camps.
Mandate
Mandate:
- To provide opportunities for continuing education for professionals in the field of Livestock Products Technology.
- To strengthen product development and quality control facilities in the livestock sector, giving renewed impetus to research in the present era of globalization.
- To enhance departmental infrastructure in meat and milk processing, packaging, and quality assurance of livestock products.
- To undertake research work on the development and standardization of value-added livestock-based products to meet the growing demand for ready-to-eat and convenient foods.
- To provide training to farmers, entrepreneurs, and women self-help groups in hygienic production, processing, quality control and value addition of livestock-based products.
