Brief Introduction
Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Associate professor-cum-Senior Scientist is working as Head of the Department of Dairy Microbiology (Faculty of Dairy Technology) at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology, Patna. He is specialized in Dairy Microbiology and has a very rich experience in the area of dairy processing. In his service span of twenty eight years, he had an opportunity to serve a couple of prestigious dairy processing plants of Haryana and Punjab before joining the Bihar state agricultural university job. He possess a unique blend of industrial-academia linkage, which has been quite useful for him in executing a variety of techno-entrepreneurship Programs in the state as he enjoys a rare concoction of teaching, research, extension, training skill and industrial experiences. He is a life member of various societies / organisations like Indian Dairy Association, Delhi, Association of Food Scientists and Technologists, CFTRI, Mysore, Dairy Technology Society of India, Karnal, Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata, Indian Society of Extension Education, New Delhi, Society of Krishi Vigyan, Kolkata and Society for Upliftment of Rural Economy, Varanasi, UP, India. He was recipient of Merit Scholarship during B.Sc. (Dairy Technology) at RAU, Pusa, Bihar, M. Sc. Dairying (Dairy Microbiology) at SMC College of Dairy Science, Anand, Gujrat and Ph.D. Program at Faculty of Dairy Technology, W.B.U.A.F.S., Mohanpur, Kolkata. He completed training at R.A.L. Gaziabad and procedural training at AGMARK Office, New Delhi for grading and marking of Ghee and successfully got Agmark-Chemist licence in the year 1993. He also cleared NET exam in 1992, completed PG Diploma in Agriculture Extension Management from MANAGE, Hyderabad in 2009 and secured First place in first batch of Bihar. He also got trainers certificate for four job roles from ASKI in the field of Dairy and regularly imparting training to the rural unemployed youth / farmers through different organisations. He was a University Badminton player and got first prize in Inter College Badminton Tournament at R.A.U. Pusa and G.A.U. Anand and represented RAU, Pusa in All India Inter University Badminton tournament.
In addition to B. Tech. and M. Tech. teaching assignments, he has been engaged in a number of activities viz. Hostel Warden, Officer In-Charge (RTI, Estate Office, Games and sports) of SGIDT, Nodal officer for Dairy Gram, Skill development centre and Start up Program, Officer In-Charge Games and sports of BASU, Patna and member of different committee including In–plant training, house allotment, anti ragging etc. He has been awarded “Best KVK Scientist Award” in ISEE National Seminar on Extension Innovations and Methodologies for Market-led Agriculture Growth and Development at RVSKVV, Gwalior on 26-28 February, 2015, “Distinguished Scientist Award” in the National Conference on Livelihood and Food Security (LFS-2018) on January 27-28, 2018 at Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, “Best Teacher Award-2017” in the International Conference on
