Department of Livestock Products Technology
About
The discipline started functioning as a separate Department of Food Technology from November, 1985. Previously it was tagged with Department of Livestock Production and Management of the college. Dr J.N. Singh was the founder professor of this department and he superannuated in 2009. In 2007, Dr Sushma Kumari joined as Assistant Professor and served singly the department till 2019 after superannuation of Dr J.N. Singh. In November, 2019 two Assistant Professors Dr R. K. Jaiswal and Dr Gargi Mahapatra joined in the department. Now this department has good strength of Assistant Professor. This department is serving in the field of livestock products processing after its establishment and till now it has been educated the veterinary faculty students through UG and PG Teaching and trained farmers, rural women, entrepreneurs, etc through organizing various training programmes. Till the date, two university funded and four externally funded research projects have been completed in this department. From October 2019, BASU revolving fund have been started in this department whose aim is for production and marketing of milk and meat products. This department actively participate in exhibitions, kishan mela, kishan ghosti etc. organized at university and national level.
Mandate
- To educate and produce skilled UG and PG students in livestock products handling, processing, quality control, packaging and marketing area.
- To conduct quality research on need based problems and to dissipate their findings through lab to land programme.
- To train students, youths specially women and farmers for entrepreneurship a self-development in livestock products and by-products processing.
