Bihar Animal Sciences University organized a one day Workshop on Role of Animal Feed Industry in Farmers Welfare on 18th July, 2018. The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, BASU by enlightening the lamp in the conference hall of the University. In the programme Senior officials of BASU, livestock entrepreneurs, representatives of feed industries, Principal Scientist of ICAR-RCER Dr. Amitava Dey and faculty members of Bihar Veterinary College, Patna and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology, Patna were present.
Hon’ble Vice –Chancellor in his inaugural speech said that majority of livestock farmers of Bihar rear only one or two cattle or Buffalo and feeding pattern is by grazing of pasture. Feed cost becomes higher due to small cattle holding. Livestock farmers needs to be organized and work collectively. Feed company should maintain standard feed quality, he added. BASU has planned for a feed testing lab in the Bihar Veterinary College where farmers can test quality of their animal feed on a nominal charge. University will provide free counselling services to farmers for feeding of their animals.
There was thorough discussion about quality of feed, pricing and other constraints in the workshop. The porogamme was organized by Chairman of Animal Nutrition, Dr. Chandramoni, with members Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Dr. Saroj Rajak . Among senior officials DRI-Cum-Dean, PGS Dr. H. M. Saxena, Director Extension Dr. A. K. Thakur, DSW Dr. Raman Trivedi, Director Research Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Dean SGIDT Dr. M. N. Singh, Dr. S. R. P. Sinha were present.
