• Scientists from BASU in collaboration with BUHS are working in the area of stem cell research for therapeutic purposes.
• IGIMS, Patna also comes under Bihar University of Health Sciences, Patna. BASU is working in collaboration with IGIMS in one health platform project. Faculties from IGIMS have been proposed as collaborator for study on monitoring of AMR in human. Dr. Anjay, VPHE from Bihar Veterinary College, Patna is also guiding one PhD research of IGIMS as Co-advisor.

• Public Health & Epidemiology: Disease surveillance, maternal and child health, and nutritional disorders prevalent in the state (e.g., malnutrition, Kala-azar).
• Modern Medicine & Clinical Trials: Institutional trials, oncology, and regional disease management in affiliation with major centers like IGIMS or PMCH.
• AYUSH Systems: Integrative medicine, validating traditional therapies (Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani), and pharmacological research on medicinal plants.
• Health Economics & Administration: Studies focused on hospital management, healthcare delivery, and health policy formulation in resource-constrained settings.
• Paramedical & Allied Health: Research in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and clinical laboratory technologies.

• Veterinary Clinical Sciences & Geriatrics: Research into canine/feline diseases (e.g., diabetes mellitus biomarkers) and comparative pharmacology
• Animal Genomics & Bioinformatics: Studying animal molecular biology, precision breeding, and genetic databases.
• Medical Biotechnology & Stem Cells: Exploring advanced therapeutics, regenerative medicine, and oncology.

• The Annual Review Meet (ARM) of National Animal Disease Epidemiology Network (NADEN) project was convened at NIVEDI, Bengaluru on 06-07th July, 2023. Dr. Pankaj Kumar, PI of the Project attended the Annual Review Meet.

These Visits were also effectively utilized to strengthen professional liaison and foster collaborative interactions with researchers engaged in the field of infectious diseases of animals. The collaborations focused on important diseases such as brucellosis, lumpy skin disease (LSD), peste des petits ruminants (PPR), mycoplasma infections, and other priority animal diseases, facilitating the exchange of scientific knowledge. The diagnostic kits developed by NIVEDI Scientists were routinely used by the NADEN Centre Patna.

• Disease Forecasting & Forewarning: Developing and refining AI/ML models for the National Animal Disease Referral Expert System (NADRES) to predict outbreaks of 13 major economically important livestock diseases.
• One Health & Zoonoses: Researching zoonotic diseases (such as Leptospirosis and Brucellosis) to understand transmission dynamics between animals, humans, and the environment.
• Diagnostics & Microbiology: Working with the institute’s advanced WOAH Reference Laboratories on molecular diagnostics and studying the biodiversity of pathogenic microbes.
• Disease Economics: Conducting collaborative studies to quantify economic losses due to livestock diseases and to evaluate the effectiveness of control and vaccination programs.
• Digital Surveillance & Data Analytics: Enhancing digital epidemiological networks, geographic risk-mapping, and real-time outbreak response –

• Genomics & Personalized Medicine: Analysing human samples using PCR, flow cytometry, and lymphocyte cultures for karyotyping to better target cancer genetics. They recently launched genetic counselling services in collaboration with Karkinos Healthcare.
• Medicinal Plants & Therapeutics: Investigating botanical remedies and plant-based antidotes against chemotherapy-induced toxicity, heavy metal toxicity, and pesticides.
• Clinical Lab & Pathology: Utilizing facilities in histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and tumour marker analysis to study specific cancer types.
• Paediatric Oncology: Building on existing paediatric oncology projects to drive collaborative paediatric cancer trials and supportive care research.
• Biotechnology & Life Sciences: Academic collaboration through their training sections, which frequently host research on cancer, diabetes, and toxicology.
• Environmental and Public Health: Investigating environmental sample for heavy metal toxicity.

• Phytochemistry & Product Formulation: Extraction, isolation, and processing of essential oils, natural dyes, and bioactive compounds used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and nutraceuticals.
• Agricultural & Livestock Sciences: Partnering with bodies like ICAR-NDRI to explore value-addition in agriculture and livestock feeds.
• Agro-technology & Biopesticides: Designing sustainable, eco-friendly farming practices and developing natural biopesticides.

Dr Ajeet Kumar, Associate Professor, VBC and Dr Anjay, Associate Professor, VPHE has requested for one week training related to   development and validation of Lateral Flow Assay (LFA)-based rapid diagnostic tests for important zoonotic diseases with Dr. Pankaj Suman, Scientist-E, NIAB under One Health Programme  (in progress).

Diagnostics & Therapeutics: Development of DNA/RNA vaccines, recombinant proteins, and rapid nano-diagnostics to fight bacterial, viral (e.g., bluetongue), and protozoan livestock diseases.Pathogen Studies: Studying human-animal interface diseases using state-of-the-art Bio-Safety Level-3 (BSL-3) containment and isolation labs.

2. Reproductive Biotechnology and Genetics

Elite Genotype Multiplication: Collaborations with dairy boards and veterinary universities on artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and animal cloning.

Stem Cell BioBank: Utilizing their state-of-the-art Animal Stem Cell BioBank and 3D bioprinter for cellular therapies, tissue engineering, and infertility treatments.

3. Genomics and Transgenesis

Genetic Enhancement: Improving Indian livestock and poultry breeds using genomic selection.

Transgenic Modeling: Developing transgenic farm animals to produce therapeutic proteins and molecules of pharmaceutical value.

4. Nutrition and Bioinformatics

Feed Optimization: Researching the biological conversion of crop residues into high-value nutritional products for farm animals.

Computational Biology: Data integration, predictive modeling, and bioinformatics support for complex biological datasets.

5. Industry Incubation and Entrepreneurship

Translational Commercialization: Partnering with startups and private biotech companies to test, scale, and commercialize animal-based healthcare products and technologies.

• Faculties from BSIDT, Patna Dr Binita Rani, Dr L.M. Bal and Dr. Anamika Das led UG student team visited NIPER, Hajipur in their industrial visit tour and interacted with the faculty of NIPER and learnt about the different aspect of Quality Control.
• On 03.07.2026 Dr. A.K.Das and two students of the Department of Veterinary Medicine visited NIPER, Hajipur to assess the facilities available for research. Again on 14.07.2026 Dr. Prabhjot Kaur visited NIPER Hajipur and interacted with the faculties for help in her research work.

• Translational Pharmacology & Infectious Diseases: Joint studies focusing on visceral leishmaniasis (Kala-azar), multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), and HIV.
• Biologics & Pharmacopoeia Development: Partnering with the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) to create reference standards for complex biologics, cell and gene therapies, and biosimilars.
• Drug Discovery & Open Science: Engaging in open-source drug discovery and preclinical proof-of-concept development (partnering with global firms like Boehringer Ingelheim).
• Formulation & Delivery Systems: Developing nano-enabled formulations, long-acting injectables, and advanced respiratory/nasal delivery systems.
• Toxicology & Pharmacovigilance: Screening and studying drug safety, adverse drug reactions, heavy metal toxicities, and regulatory toxicology.
