About
The Department of Dairy Engineering is one of the core academic departments of the B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) programme, dedicated to advancing engineering education, research and innovation in the dairy and food processing sector. The department focuses on the application of engineering principles to the processing, preservation, packaging, storage, transportation and value addition of milk and dairy products. It integrates the disciplines of mechanical, thermal, electrical, instrumentation, automation and food engineering to design, develop, operate, and optimize modern dairy processing systems. Emphasizing sustainability, energy efficiency, digital technologies, and smart manufacturing, the department strives to develop technically competent professionals capable of addressing the evolving needs of the dairy industry while contributing to food security, rural development, and entrepreneurship.
Mandate
- Provide Quality Education and Training: Impart high-quality education and hands-on practical training in Dairy Engineering with a strong foundation in engineering principles, dairy processing, equipment design, automation, and sustainable manufacturing.
- Promote Research and Technological Innovation: Advance research, innovation, and technology development in dairy processing, smart manufacturing, process optimization, energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmental management, and digital technologies.
- Develop Industry-Ready Professionals and Entrepreneurs: Build competent engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs capable of addressing emerging challenges in the dairy and food sector through innovation, incubation, and skill development.
- Strengthen Industry Linkages and Technology Transfer: Foster strong collaboration with dairy industries, cooperatives, research organizations, and academic institutions through consultancy, technical services, internships, equipment testing, process optimization, and technology transfer.
- Support Sustainable Rural Development: Enhance farmers’ livelihoods and rural prosperity by promoting value addition, mechanization, sustainable dairy technologies, capacity building, and extension programmes.
- Establish Centres of Excellence in Dairy Engineering: Develop advanced laboratories, pilot-scale processing facilities, CAD and simulation capabilities, and postgraduate (M.Tech.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes to promote interdisciplinary research, leadership, professional ethics, and lifelong learning.
