Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding

The Department of Animal Breeding & Genetics came into existence in the year 2023 as an independent unit with the establishment of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Kishanganj on August 24, 2022. Since its inception, the Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding is actively engaged in teaching, research, extension and other activities.

Animal Genetics and Breeding is one of the core subjects having immense theoretical and practical importance. With the initiation of B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree programme at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Kishanganj, the Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding teach basic Principles of Genetics and Animal Breeding along with Biostatistics and Computer application as per the syllabus framed by VCI.

Apart from the theoretical knowledge, the students are exposed to practical demonstrations for better understanding of the subject. The department has a well-equipped laboratory which is sufficient for efficient learning of the students. The department offers Under Graduate courses and Post Graduate Programmes (both M.V.Sc. & Ph.D.) in the field of Animal Genetics and Breeding.

The department is also actively engaged in extension activities like Kisan samwad and Animal Genetic Resources awareness programs. The department provides opportunity for students to explore the unrecognized and non-descript animal genetic resources available in the local areas.
