About the Department

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education was established in year 2023 at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (COVAS), Arrabari, Kishanganj, under Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna, in accordance with the recommendations of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).

The Department is equipped with modern facilities and the latest equipment to facilitate quality undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) education. It offers undergraduate courses as well as postgraduate programmes leading to the Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education.

In addition to its academic responsibilities, the Department actively undertakes extension and outreach activities to improve the knowledge, skills, and livelihoods of the farming community of Bihar, with particular emphasis on the Seemanchal region.

Major activities include the organization of Kisan Samvad programmes, animal health camps, farmers' awareness camps, animal welfare-cum-infertility camps, and skill development training programmes for livestock farmers and other stakeholders.

The Department also contributes to the dissemination of scientific and practical knowledge by publishing extension literature, including informative booklets, pamphlets, and other educational materials in English and regional languages.

These initiatives aim to promote scientific livestock management practices, improve animal health and productivity, strengthen farmers' capacities, and enhance the overall socio-economic well-being of the farming community.
