About the Department
The Department of Veterinary Microbiology was established in the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CoVAS), Kishanganj, with generous funding from Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU) in the year 2023–24.
The full-fledged Department of Veterinary Microbiology has evolved with the mandate of achieving academic excellence in education and research in Veterinary Microbiology. The Department provides an academic ambience and work culture to students and research scholars, supporting their overall personality development, career guidance, innovative research and successful careers.
The Department is engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. Veterinary Microbiology is taught to second-professional-year B.V.Sc. & A.H. students as per MSVE-2016.
The course comprises Paper-I (Units I, II and III) and Paper-II (Units IV and V), with a total of 05 credit hours. The Department has 80 students per batch.
The Department has the capacity to admit M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. students and offer courses with eligible faculty members. It is well equipped with research facilities, and two institutional research projects are currently running.
The Department maintains an open policy for collaborative research, attracting eminent scholars and scientists across Virology, Bacteriology and Immunology. It also supports diagnostic work on samples received from the Veterinary Clinical Complex. Faculty members actively organize and participate in animal health camps and other extension activities.

Facilities
Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology Laboratory
One laboratory equipped with instruments as per VCI guidelines, including an inoculation chamber and washing and disinfection area.
Veterinary Immunology and Serology Laboratory
One laboratory equipped with instruments as per VCI guidelines and a smart board for virtual demonstrations.
Cell Culture Laboratories
One cell culture laboratory for teaching and one reference cell culture laboratory for research and diagnostic purposes.
Molecular Virology Laboratories
One molecular virology laboratory for teaching and another for research and diagnostic purposes.
