Training Programme on Management of Animals in Emergencies Completed at BASU

Bihar Animal Sciences University completed 23 training programme on “Management of Animals in Emergencies” since 4th June, 2018.

The state of Bihar is very much prone to disasters. Occurrence of flood and drought is common for the state. People of Bihar has to face many sort of losses including loss of life and livelihood in the form of damage to Animal Husbandry and Agriculture.

To minimize the loss of Livestock during different disasters, training programme on “Management of Animals in Emergencies” was initiated with combined efforts of Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna, Deptt. of Animal & Fisheries Resources, Govt. of Bihar, Bihar State Disaster Management Authority and Word Animal Protection.

The training programme was inaugurated by Sri Dinesh Chandra Yadav, Hon’ble Minister, Disaster Management, Bihar, Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, BASU and other guests and dignitaries at Conference Hall of BVC on 04.06.2018.

Since the inauguration, Bihar Animal Sciences University imparted intensive training to twenty-three batches of Officers of Animal Husbandry Department. The resource persons for this purpose were, faculty from Bihar Animal Sciences University, Senior officers of BASU, Nodal officer of Disaster management from Animal Husbandry Department, Nodal officers from Bihar State Disaster Management Authority and specialist from wild life, mainly from World Wildlife Fund, Patna Zoo etc.

More than 800 Veterinary Officers were trained on various topics like Introduction to disasters, types and principles of disaster management, handling of animals during disaster, emergency animal shelters, feeding of animals during disaster, data collection during disaster, disaster risk reduction, disease control and biosecurity, infectious disease during and after disaster, carcass disposal during disaster, management of wildlife in disaster were the main topics covered in the four days training programme.

The training progarmme was coordinated by Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Saroj K. Rajak under the guidance of Director Extension Education, Bihar Animal Sciences University, Dr. A. K. Thakur. Training was provided at the Training Hall of Bihar Veterinary College, Patna and Conference Hall of Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna.
