About
The Department of Dairy Extension Education is one of the six constituent departments of the Bihar State Institute of Dairy Technology (BSIDT). The Department is actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension, and offers a diverse range of courses in Dairy Extension Education, including Communication Skills, Personality Development, Fundamentals of Dairy Extension, Basics of Animal Husbandry, Milk Production Management and Dairy Development, Dairy Development in India and Abroad, Dairy Cattle Nutrition and Reproduction and Student READY Rural Dairy Work Experience Programme-1 (RDWEP-1). The Department is equipped with a modern Training Hall-cum-Practical Classroom to support quality teaching and hands-on learning.
The Department was established with the mandate of undertaking extension activities alongside teaching and research in Extension Education. It plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and field application through a wide spectrum of extension initiatives. Major activities include organizing training programmes, transfer of technologies, conducting demonstrations, scientist–farmer interactions, Kisan Gosthies, Animal Welfare Camps (AWCs), field days, and exposure visits, thereby contributing significantly to the dissemination and adoption of improved dairy practices.
Mandate
The Dairy Extension Education Department of the Bihar State Institute of Dairy Technology (BSIDT) is mandated to undertake the following functions:
- Academic Instruction and Curriculum Implementation
To impart quality education in Dairy Extension Education in accordance with the course curriculum and academic standards prescribed by the ICAR Deans’ Committee. - Extension and Outreach Activities
To organize and conduct demonstrations and field-oriented extension programs for capacity building of dairy value chain stakeholders. - Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge and Technologies
To disseminate improved dairy technologies and best practices among farmers, rural youth, farm women, and other stakeholders through trainings, Kisan Gosthies, field days, and exposure visits. - Promotion and Adoption of Dairy Innovations
To facilitate the adoption of dairy technologies through collaboration among scientists, farmers, industry, and extension agencies with emphasis on group and participatory approaches.
