Aim

Equal Opportunity Cell: In line with UGC guidelines, the University has decided to constitute the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) with immediate effect with an objective to ensure that students, staff and faculty belonging to various diverse backgrounds of community, religion, region, gender or ability are not deprived of their basic opportunities.

Objectives

To oversee the effective implementation of policies and programmes for disadvantaged groups, to provide guidance and counselling with respect to academic, financial, social and other matters and to enhance diversity within the campus.

Functions

  • Ensure equity and equal opportunity to the community at large in the University and bring about social inclusion.
  • Enhance the diversity among the students, teaching and non-teaching staff population and at the same time eliminate the perception of discrimination.
  • Create a socially congenial atmosphere for academic interaction and for the growth of healthy interpersonal relationships among the students coming from various social backgrounds.
  • Make efforts to sensitize the academic community regarding the problems associated with social exclusion as well as aspirations of the marginalized communities.
  • Help individuals or groups of students belonging to the disadvantaged section of society to overcome problems related to discrimination.
  • Look into the grievances of the weaker sections of society and suggest amicable solutions to their problems.
  • Disseminate information related to schemes and programmes for the welfare of socially weaker sections as well as notifications, memoranda and office orders issued by the Government and other agencies from time to time.
  • Prepare barrier-free formalities and procedures for admission and registration of students belonging to disadvantaged groups.
  • Establish coordination with Government and other agencies/organizations to mobilize academic and financial resources for providing assistance to students belonging to disadvantaged groups.
  • Organize periodic meetings to monitor the progress of different schemes.
  • Adopt measures to ensure due share of utilization by SC/ST in admissions and recruitments (teaching and non-teaching posts) and improve their performance.
  • Sensitize the University community on the problems of SC/ST and other disadvantaged groups.

Committee Tenure: The maximum tenure of the committee shall be three (03) years from the date of issuance of this order.

The role and responsibilities of the committee shall be to ensure that all decisions in Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna are based purely on merit, qualifications and abilities, without any bias or discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, religion, caste, ethnic origin, nationality, age, disability, birth, HIV status, family status, sexual orientation, marital status or any other protected characteristic.
