Brief Introduction
Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh joined as Director, Resident Instruction-cum-Dean, Postgraduate Studies at Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU), Patna on 17th September 2025. He obtained his B.V.Sc. & A.H. from Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar; M.V.Sc. in Animal Nutrition from CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar; and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar. He also qualified ICAR-NET. To further strengthen his academic profile, he also holds Post Graduate Diplomas in Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE, Hyderabad) and Animal Welfare (IGNOU, Delhi), along with international certifications from the University of Edinburgh, University of California-Davis, and UNITAR. During his academic journey, he was awarded the ICAR-Senior and Junior Research Fellowships, University Merit Scholarship, and the National Merit Scholarship of the Govt. of India.
Dr. Singh began his academic career in 2002 as Assistant Professor of Animal Nutrition at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Srinagar, and later served at Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, rising to Professor & Head, Department of Animal Nutrition. He has also been External Adjunct Faculty at Banaras Hindu University, Visiting Scholar at the University of Florida, USA, and Invited Speaker at Feed Additive Asia-2018, Thiland. He is passionate about e-learning initiatives at BASU, having developed structured online course materials and uploaded over 50 recorded lectures in Animal Nutrition for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, earning recognition at the university level.
With over 23 years of experience in teaching, research, extension, and administration, Dr. Singh has published 76 research papers in reputed journals, authored 14 books, 30 book chapters, 6 practical manuals, 18 lead papers, 65 abstracts, 53 technical/popular articles, and 12 pamphlets. He has delivered 18 invited lectures at international and national forums, 34 television talks on Doordarshan Patna, and over 100 lectures in farmer training programmes. As a research mentor, he has guided 2 Ph.D. and 18 M.V.Sc. students, among whom two received ‘University Gold Medals’ and the prestigious ‘Dr. C.M. Singh Memorial Best M.V.Sc. Scholar Award. His research has focused on novel feed additives, phytobiotics, and unconventional feed resources for livestock and poultry. He has completed 12 research projects, including collaborations with the University of Melbourne, Australia. His notable innovations include ‘Complete Feed Block Technology’, ‘BASUmin mineral mixture’, and the ‘BASU Feed’ mobile app for dairy farmers.
Beyond academics, Dr. Singh has made strong contributions to institutional governance at BASU. He has served as Deputy Director Research, Assistant Registrar (Administration), Member Secretary of the PG Board of Studies, and chaired key committees including Teaching Coordination, Tender Evaluation, Financial Evaluation, and College Level Purchase. He has also coordinated the HRD Cell, acted as Nodal Officer for ICAR-PIMS and ICAR Grievance Redressal System, and contributed to state-level bodies including the 4th Krishi Road Map of Bihar and the Gau Seva Aayog.
He has organized an ICAR short course and over 20 professional events, including seminars, symposia, and workshops. He has held leadership roles as Vice-President of the Animal Nutrition Association and the Animal Nutrition Society of India, Treasurer of the Society for Farm and Companion Animals, and Treasurer of the BVC Alumni Association. He also serves on the editorial boards and review panels of reputed journals.
For his outstanding contributions, Dr. Singh has received several prestigious recognitions including Fellow of Animal Nutrition Association (FANA), Young Scientist Award of UCOST, Dehradun, Dr. S.K. Ranjhan Best Doctoral Thesis Award, Distinguished Dairy Professional Award, Global Poultry Award, University Best Teacher Award-2021, and the CLFMA Award-2023, in addition to multiple Best Paper and Poster Awards. His profile is also indexed in Marquis Who’s Who in the World (2010).
